Anyone who was around and old enough to pay attention in 1971 that loved pop music will have to remember Madman across the Water by Elton John. It was not the first music he released, but it was this album that probably took his career to new successful heights. Included in the album are the unforgettable Tiny Dancer and Levon. This was the real beginning of Elton John becoming a household name, at least for the younger generation of that time.

Some rock superstars just seem to be able to go on playing forever. People like Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Cher, and so many more just continue to put out hit after hit no matter that they are no longer the young artists that they used to be. They do not seem to lose their flair that made them so popular in the first place. We all thought that Madonna was the first musician of her kind to continually reinvent herself, but when you look at Elton John specifically you have to admit that he came up with this reinvention thing first.

When we first started watching Elton perform, he seemed like a clean cut enough young man who could play the piano wonderfully and could sing beautifully. Before much longer we loved his music even more along with the incredibly outrageous costumes and glasses he wore during his performances. His shows and costumes were almost circus like and they were never boring.

As he did get older and his hit songs continued to come and only seemed to get better, he began reducing the outrageous outfits and took on a more normal and even sophisticated appearance. This is also about the time that his life style choice also became more recognized. Today he has even been knighted by Queen Elizabeth herself for his outstanding work with aids.

No matter what your opinion might be about the way he performed his music or what his personal choices might be, everyone has to admit that he is truly a musical genius who has had his music stand the test of time. He is probably one of the greatest pop artists who was and still is until this day. Even though he does not release as many songs today as he used to, you can probably bet that we have not heard the last of the Great Elton John just yet.
