If you have a figurine collection that you cherish, you are probably concerned about how to care for it. There are some things you can do to care for your collection that will preserve and keep it in good condition.

The first thing you should do is provide a good storage space for your collection. If you are like many people, you will want to show off your collection. In that case, you should display your pieces in a dish cabinet, curio cabinet or any structure where they are protected behind glass. The more cover they have, the harder it is for dust to accumulate on them. If your collection is substantial, investing in a dust free display cabinet is recommended to protect and showcase your collection.

Cleaning Porcelain Figurines

Cleaning your porcelain figurines is important. You should dust them often. You can blow the dust away or brush it away with a large paint brush. The benefit of using a brush is that dust and small particles can easily be removed from lines, where towels or cloths may not be able to reach.

You may also use something else that is lightweight like a feather duster or soft cloth. When necessary, you should use mild soap and warm water to clean the pieces and then pat them gently dry with a soft cloth.

Cleaning Crystal Collectibles

If you have crystal figurines they should be cleaned when necessary. Fill a sink or plastic tub with water and add about a cup of glass cleaner. It is not recommend to clean crystal collectibles with any glass cleaning product that contains ammonia. To prevent scratches and accidental breakage, you should clean one piece at a time. It is also a good idea to line the sink bottom with a towel. Soaking crystal collectibles for long periods of time is not recommended.

You should let your crystal collectibles air dry. Then you should handle them with cotton lint free gloves, or for large pieces, a lint free photography cloth. Most photography stores sell cleaning kits that include gloves and a blower brush, the brush is helpful on those hard to reach places on pieces.

Its also important to keep Your crystal collection away from constant direct sunlight. Constant sunlight will dry out the glue and component pieces may separate. Also, any heating source in your home can defect the glue and cause components to separate.

Whether your collectible figurines were gifts or you bought them for yourself, it is worth the time and effort to preserve them. Since collectible figurines increase in value over time, you may want to sell them or you may want to pass them down to the next generation.
