Astronomy is a fascinating hobby. It is the science and the study of the objects in space. But, did you know, that you can participate in astronomy yourself? It is possible, and can be done easily. In this astronomy for beginners article, you will learn about how you can get into astronomy.

When you look up at the night sky, you will no doubt find many points of shinning lights. These points of lights are lights from stars. And stars are what gives light, whether it is our Sun our stars millions of light years away.

To be able to see these points of light is simply amazing, considering how far away they are. However, stars are pretty much like our Sun, generators of light. There are some other great things to look at however, like the Pleiades's star cluster - a cluster of hundreds of stars all in one area. Also not to forget the planets, our Moon, Nebula, and other galaxies. But, how do you view these objects, especially when you are new to astronomy.

Telescopes are scientific instruments which allow you to view these objects deep in space. The whole process begins with light. Our eyes only let in a certain amount of light, however, if our eyes where as big as windows, we would be able to see these objects in supreme beauty.

This makes a need to have something which will bring in that extra light. This is done with a telescope. Basically a telescope has a lens or mirror with a bigger surface area than our eyes. This light is then focused smaller and smaller until it can reach our eyes in one piece.

Then when we look through a telescope and we get to see that supreme beauty. You get to see the rings of Saturn, Jupiter, and the craters on the Moon, Nebula, and many other interesting objects in space. However, realize that telescopes can not show you a quality and color of what the Hubble Space Telescope can show.

Though it may seem as though the good telescopes are only found in observatories. There are other telescopes which still give great views of objects in space. Telescope companies such as Meade, Celestron and Orion produce spectacular telescopes which you can buy from an astronomy and telescope store and use in your own backyard!

Buying a telescope is simply a great thing to do. You get to participate in a subject which interested people right back to the Stone Age. A good telescope will also last for many years, especially when taken care of. You can never get bored of a telescope. There are just too many interesting things to find.

A telescope is not like a video game. You won't have to keep upgrading, though many will after many years of being in astronomy, but it is not necessary. If you were looking at a new object every day, in a lifetime you would not even scratch the amount of viewable objects in space.
