Have you looked up at the heavens, seen all those stars, and wondered what the beauty of the universe looks like? There is no need to look at NASA images; instead you can see them for yourself with a telescope. But, how do you go about getting a telescope?

Telescopes are scientific instruments. And a good telescope will last far more years, than a cheap telescope. This is an important point to remember before we delve deeper into buying a telescope. Telescopes are fascinating scientific instruments available to all people, and the cheap telescopes in toy stores often get more people out of astronomy than they put in.

There are a few points to consider when buying a telescope. That is the space it takes up, the tripod, and astronomy. We will go into all the details, and here is what you will find in this article:
* The Telescope
* The Tripod And Mount
* Into Astronomy

* The Telescope
Often cheaper telescopes will try to sell you on magnification. It is a natural inclination to believe that magnification is important. After all, you want to see something far away, the magnification is what you want. But, with astronomy things work differently.

For example, think about a picture you may take digitally, a picture on the computer, etc. As you make that image bigger, it gets more blurry. This is same as what happens with magnification in telescopes. Imagine that! And the cheaper range telescopes want to sell you on magnification!

The most important aspect of how good the images you see through the telescope, is due to the lens or mirror, depending on the type of telescope you are looking to buy. For example with a Newtonian reflector (the type with a big mirror, and you look at the telescope through the side of the telescope), the size of the mirror is what is important.

The space the telescope occupies is another consideration that is often overlooked. A telescope may seem small, but in use, it can take up much more space than at first thought.

* The Tripod And Mount
The tripod and mount are essential considerations when choosing a model to buy. Without a bad tripod the best model will only ever be an average in use. Look for a sturdy tripod that does not move if the breeze hits it or if you accidentally tap it.

* Into Astronomy
A telescope is no use, unless you know where things are in the universe. There are some great books which can help you get the best out of your telescope.
