There are many different types of California health insurance that an individual or family could be covered by. There are California family health plans, which are typically very affordable for the average family whose members are healthy. There are some very affordable California health insurance plans for individuals, as well. There is also California high risk health insurance, which is intended for people who are in higher risk groups for suffering injury or disease.

When most people discuss California health insurance, though, they are referring to the plans that are provided by businesses for their employees, which typically include employees’ families as well. The more comprehensive California family health plans cover medical bills, surgery, and hospital expenses. Any California health insurance will at least cover trips to the doctor and prescriptions, usually with a patient co-pay.

Everyone should be covered by some sort of medical plan in this great state, which is why California high risk health insurance is available, although these are sometimes more expensive. Some people worry that pre-existing conditions will put them in this category, but this is not necessarily true. If you’ve had group health coverage for two years or more, and you switch jobs and health plans, the new plan can’t impose another preexisting condition exclusion period.

While there are more California health insurance plans than could possibly be listed in one place, they should all have some elements in common. Whether family, individual, or high-risk, all health plans are either fee-for-service (individual pays) or managed care (the insurance company pays). So it’s up to the patient and their prospective insurance company to decide what is best for them.
