There are many options for anyone interested in binding their own hardbound books and creating documents for presentations or lectures. The most popular binding choices include Thermal Binding Hard Cases, Unibind SteelBooks and Velobind Hard Cases. These hardbound book binding systems provide users with the ability to perform high-quality binding whether they are at home or in the office. All of thee casing options have their own strengths and weaknesses, though, which are described below.
Thermal Case Binding – It is a little bit more time consuming to bind hardbound documents with this type of binding machine compared to something like the Unibind. Users insert pages and covers into the machine, just like with the Unibind, but they must also be inserted into a hardback book crimper for cooling after the heating process is complete. This ensures that the spine will be shaped right and the glue will be completely sealed. Thermal binding hard cases come in many different sizes and finishes from Unibind, but they require a minimum two week lead time for production. The cases can have windows, foil stamping, silk screening and four color process printed covers added, and they are available in quantities as small 100 books. Thermal binding cases are a good option for individually-sized photo books or custom presentation covers.

Unibind SteelBooks – This is the simplest binding process for hardbound books. These unique hard covers allow the pages to be simply inserted into the spine, after which the book is inserted into the Unibind Machine, and less than a minute later the book is finished and just needs to be cooled. Unibind SteelBooks covers come in a wise range of sizes up to 36mm, as well as a wide variety of colors and sizes. This is also the only option for hardbound binding in which the supplies are stocked and no production time is necessary, unless there are special requests such as windows or foil stamping. Four-color Unibind Steelbooks with all these customizations can be ordered in quantities greater than 500 with a several month lead time. Unibind SteelBooks are the best option for short-term book batches, presentations and proposals. They are not ideal, however, for highly customized books and presentations that involve four-color process printing, silk-screening or custom-sized covers.

Velobind Case Binding – Those who already own a Velobind system will want to consider these hardbound covers, but they are not usually compatible with other subsystems. These hard cases use special fly sheets that are bound together with the book using your Velobind system and then peeled back to reveal an adhesive that attaches the book into the Velobind Hard Case. The related supplies are produced on a custom order basis, and can also be foil stamped. Cost and lead time, though, make Velobind the least desirable option for in-house hardbound binding.
Anyone interested in producing photo books, hard cover presentations, yearbooks or other hardbound documents should call MyBinding to further discuss their binding options. Visit the Web site for more details.
