We are all aware of trying to keep our cholesterol levels low enough to be considered healthy. But, how much time do you spend trying to raise good cholesterol levels? With all of the focus on avoiding the risk of heart disease and other major health issues that are connected to high cholesterol levels, we often lose something. We need to be spending some time on keeping our good or HDL cholesterol elevated. So, sit back, relax and pay attention.

For at least 20 minutes a day, you need to exercise. You don't have to joing a gym and go crazy. I mean just walk around the block a few times. Call a friend to see if they will go for a jog with you before work. You do not have to wear yourself out, you just need to spend that minimum amount of time doing it. So, turn off that television and do something good for your cholesterol!

If you follow my first suggestion, then this on should not be that difficult. You need to make sure that you rid yourself of any extra weight. Carrying even a few extra pounds will elevate the bad cholesterol and lower the good cholesterol levels.

Quit Smoking - About the only advantage you might have as a smoker, is that you have an extra thing to refrain from. Stop puffing and your body will start increasing HDL levels almost immediately.

Here is the hard one for me. Stop eating all of the fried, fatty foods. If you can stop eating them completely, that is this the best. However, even a slight decrease in you consumption of them will help. Start replacing them with as many fresh fruits and vegetables as possible.

Here is one idea that is actually giving you permission instead of restriction. Drink one or two drinks a day. That's right indulge in a bit of alcohol. Do not take this as an opportunity to become an alcoholic, that will lead you down a totally different set of issues. No, this is one glass of wine with your meal. It actually will help those good cholesterol levels to rise.

This by no means is a complete list of ways to increase your good cholesterol. Use your common sense. Maintain a healthy diet and exercise regime. Always keep in mind that you only get one body, so be careful with it!
